At Whisky Live Macau, groups of talented artists and musicians will gather and show their music talent. Their impressive all rounded musical abilities from song writing, production to live performance represent what modern day artists are capable of. This festival, with a focus on ‘Rhythm’, is a Hybrid of Funk, R&B, Jazz, Soul, Blues…etc, the sound which you don’t normally find in indie band gigs, and also provide a perfect vibes for chilling out and quality whisky tasting.
In 1976, Hong Kong-born Jazz pianist Ted Lo was the first Chinese graduate of Berklee College of Music in the United Stated. Beginning his career as a freelance jazz pianist during the 70’s, he made his recording debut on trombonist Raul de Souza’s 1974 album “Colors”. In 1977, Ted toured with rock legend Al Kooper.
In 1979, he moved to New York City, where over the next decade he collaborated with the likes of Artrud Gilberto, Ron Carter, Earl Kluge, Herbie Hancock, Eric Gale, Phyllis Hyman, Dave Valentin, Flora Purim, Airto Moreria, Herbie Mann, Larry Coryell, Stix Hopper, Michael Franks, Gregory Hines and fusion group Special EFX. While in the United States, Lo performed at the Blue Note in New York City, the Blues Alley in Washington, D.C., Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and the Keystone Korner in San Francisco. Lo was also featured internationally at North Sea Jazz Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, and Montreux Jazz Festival.
Returning to Hong Kong in 1996, Ted has worked with an impressive list of Hong Kong pop icons, including Eason Chan, George Lam, Janice Vidal, Jacky Cheung, Justin Lo, Kay Tse, Miriam Yeung, Gin lee, Aga, Prudence Liew, Vincy Chan, Joey Yung and Sandy Lam. In 2017, he collaborated with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra on the program “Romancing the Jazz,” and followed in 2021 with “Jazz in the City,” a collaboration with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2021, Ted was appointed Musical Director of the Montruex Jazz Festival China, and recognised that same year by Tatler, the British magazine and social media site, as one of “Asia’s Most Influential”.
In 2022, Ted released his debut solo album “Words”. Ted’s influence on jazz music has gone far beyond the stage and the studio. He has devoted much time to raising awareness about jazz music in Hong Kong and Asia, and inspiring the next generation of musicians.
Dr. João Mascarenhas
Pianist of excellence, performer, composer, producer, teacher and researcher of jazz, Brazilian, pop and Latin music. João holds a BA in Jazz Composition from Berklee College of Music (Boston-MA, 2001), a Master of Composition from the University of Missouri Columbia (Columbia-MO, 2006) and a PhD in Music Composition from Hong Kong University since 2012. Due to his interest in musical creativity and the learning process, he has written a doctoral dissertation in which he explores ways to create music using elements of jazz theory and practice.
Bossa Eva
Eva performs Latin jazz pieces on classical guitar, and her soft yet vibrant voice brings a very pleasant and enjoyable atmosphere, filled with a coastal vacation vibe. Whether she is interpreting classic Bossa Nova songs in Portuguese or adapting classic Chinese songs, she skillfully infuses the rhythm and joy of Samba into her performances through her expertise in both playing and singing.
WiniFai
She has participated in various music festivals and collaborated with musicians from around the world. Her main performance style is pop music, while she is also influenced by R&B, soul, and jazz. In 2022, she released the EDM music album “HEAL,” in collaboration with local music producer T.E.N.
Hon Chong Chan
A renowned jazz guitarist from the Greater Bay Area, he graduated from The Collective School of Music in New York and the Beijing Contemporary Music Academy. He has performed around the world and participated in international music festivals in New York, Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Shenzhen, and Macau.
Chak Seng Lam
An outstanding creative saxophonist with a deep understanding of harmony. He possesses exceptional expressive power and intensity in his performances, along with excellent rhythm. Versatile and talented, he has a strong sense of purity in his music.
Ashia & Jazz Band
Ashia loves singing and also enjoys writing. During her university years, she signed a contract to become a singer, starting to accumulate experience in vocal performances. Later, she decided to put aside public performances and music creation to focus on studying clinical psychology. However, over the years, Ashia has not completely given up on singing; she has been determined to revive her musical dreams in her spare time outside of work. In addition to singing, Ashia has also participated in several short films and musical theater productions.
